About me:

Everyone has a time in their lives when their ways of coping fall short. I believe that it is in our human nature to be incredibly resilient and that counseling can help you to reset that which already lives inside of yourself. I provide counseling through a holistic lens incorporating solutions through mining your life for what is working and helping you self-correct thoughts or behaviors that are getting in the way of your happiness.

If you are an adult or adolescent struggling with anxiety, depression, if you are over stressed, dealing with trauma or change, if you have difficulty relating to others, deal with grief and loss, or are in recovery from substance use I may be a good fit for you as a counselor.

It is incredibly important to me that you know that I am committed to working with a diverse clientele and that I honor multiculturalism. I am also a LGBTQ affirming counselor. I believe that Black lives and bodies matter. Anti-racism is important to me.

Because the relationship between therapist and client is so important for therapy to be successful, I offer a free consultation to see if it feels like we might be a good fit. I look forward to hearing from you!

Sadly, I am no longer taking insurance and I am not taking new clients at this time either.

Background:

My background in the counseling world is quite mixed. My Master's degree is from Antioch University in Counseling Psychology with a focus on multicultural studies where I wrote my thesis on issues facing Muslim women in urban and rural Egypt. I have worked everywhere from working on boats with adolescents in gangs, to working in the chemical dependency field, crisis response and referral work, to seeing clients in a managed care setting and even working in the public schools. I have worked for the University of Michigan's Institute for Social Research interviewing foster care alumni and I worked with sexual minority youth and adults for many years in a number of settings.

In addition to my mental health practice, I am a licensed school counselor. I worked as a school counselor for over ten years and fell in love with education. I see myself as a lifelong learner and enjoy teaching at Portland State University's Counselor Education Program.
